Microsoft offers a feature called App Passwords which is available when two factor authentication is enabled. App Passwords creates a one-time displayable password that can be utilized with apps like x360Cloud. To find out more about this Microsoft feature, please review Microsoft's instructions here:
There are three sections to this guide:
- Create an App Password in a Microsoft Tenant Account
- Update credentials in an existing x360Cloud Tenant
- Create a new x360Cloud Tenant with MS App Password
1. Create an App Password in a Microsoft Tenant Account
1. Create a service account (if you have not already created one in the Microsoft 365 tenant portal).
2. Set the user as Global Admin and do not assign a license.
3. Select Multifactor authentication on the user page in the Microsoft 365 Admin Panel:
4. Once the new portal opens, select the user and click Enable.
5. Open an incognito window or a fresh browser and login as the new user.
6. Follow the steps to verify the account’s 2FA settings.
7. Once logged in, click on the user in the top right and select My Account.
8. Under Security & privacy, select Manage security & privacy.
9. Select Create and manage app passwords:
10. Under the app passwords tab, select create:
11. Type a name “CloudFinder” in the box and click Next.
12. On the next screen, the one-time displayed password will appear. Copy this password and input it into the Cloudfinder credentials box.
NOTE: For security purposes, this password should not be documented. If a new password is ever needed, create a new one-time password.
