Release Overview
Replibit Agent 2.24 is a feature release. The primary purpose of this release is to provide support for Microsoft Cluster Shared Volumes. In addition, storage IO has been optimized by changing the way we track transmitted changed blocks, reducing local disk usage and total IO during the backup.
Major Features Summary
- Microsoft Cluster Shared Volume Support
- Storage IO Optimization
- Bug fixes
Summary of Microsoft Cluster Shared Volume Support
Microsoft Failover Cluster is a configuration of multiple Windows servers providing high availability of role services and shared disks by distributing them across multiple nodes within a cluster.
Roles provided by a failover cluster include
- essential services and applications (such as DHCP or DNS services, or Hyper-V virtual machines)
- shared disks that can be manually or automatically relocated to any node within the cluster
- Cluster Shared Volumes which provide disk storage that all nodes within the cluster can concurrently both read and write as if it were local storage.
In conjunction with Replibit 8.4.0 or higher, Agent 2.24 provides support for backup and recovery of shared disks and Cluster Shared Volumes within a Microsoft failover cluster.
Review the Replibit Guide to Failover Cluster Services for complete details.
Summary of Storage IO Optimization
- A single hash-bin file is now used to track changes committed to the appliance
- Read/Write IO operations are dramatically reduced by eliminating the temp-hash file during backups
- Storage requirements for hash files have been reduced by 50%
- Buffered data in transit is flushed synchronously on the appliance to guarantee 100% data integrity
Summary of Bug Fixes
- Resolved rare edge-case where data integrity violations may occur
- Resolved FastDelta crash when unmounted volumes are present
- Raw disk present when virtualizing if last volume on disk 0 has no drive letter or mount point
- Removed superfluous ‘Replibit Agent has started’ messages in event logs
- Fixed ‘GetQueuedCompletionStatus’ failures at the end of a backup
- Removed failed volume check events being logged every minute when a volume is inaccessible
- Removed inaccurate ‘System Has Changed’ events logged every minute
- Eliminated backup failure: “Backup status check on Appliance failed” after appliance reboot

Auto Update Best Practices
We recommend that Enable Auto Update is enabled on the Settings -> Update Manager page on each of your Replibit devices.
We also recommend that you enable Auto-Enable Remote Assist When Upgrading so that remote access will be available to our development team should something go wrong with your upgrade.
This will ensure that your Replibit devices are updated with the latest software enhancements in a timely fashion, and that the Replibit Support team will have a short window of time to access and repair any troublesome devices without requiring user intervention.
